I remember Lady Pole saying these words in the TV series, but I think they were in the book too... And for some reason, it's one of the sentences that come to my mind whenever I think about Susanna Clarke's universe. It ended up being a depiction of the fairies themselves: deceitful, inhuman, yet trying to copy the "Christians", cruel but innocent, savage, yet desperately clinging to an illusion of civilisation... The first victims of their own games of illusions and shadows.

Looks a bit creepy which I love. The texture really fits the nature/creepy vibe, too. Overall a very curious image, it makes me wonder more about the story.
